Definition: Generally, the amount of moisture present in the air is dependent on the Temperature and the Relative Humidity of the ambient air at the time. During the container shipment, there is a great difference in temperature between 0and 80 so that the RH can be moved to approximately 98%. When the temperature low to cold, the moisture is released from the air and condenses onto the cargo and the inside surfaces of the container, which will cause damage or deterioration to the products in the container. Therefore, it needs right container desiccant to control the humidity. 2. Procedure for using container desiccants in containers. (1) Container Inspection: Check for any damage on the containers such as holes in the walls or in the roof, gaps or holes in the floor. Doors should close tightly, and rubber seal must be in good conditions. Containers should be clean and dry before loading. (2)Check the moisture content of container floors. If possible do not use containers with over 20% moisture content. If this is not possible, adjust the number of units used as given in usage instructions. Do not use container with floors with moisture contents in excess of 25%. (3)Seal air vents. (4)Remove container desiccant from plastic bag. (5)Hang the units from securing points on container side walls just under roof. (6)Close the container doors. If there is a very tight fit in container, Pole/Sac/Bag units may be laid flat on top of cartons. However hanging should be appropriate for the vast majority of containers. Desiccants absorb water and moisture. Therefore the sacs/bags will increase volume and need space. There should be no pressure on the desiccants. 3. Number of units to place in a container. For floors in excess 20% moisture content add 1 unit for each 1. 5%. For mats of Coir and cotton, add 1 unit per container. For furniture for each 1% of moisture content over 18%, add 1 unit per Container. For Rattan, Palm Leaf, Sea grass items, add 2 units per container. If pallets are used in container and over 18% moisture content, add 1 unit for each 1.5%. |
