Classification of surge arresters:

Distribution arresters: The distribution arresters are used for the protection of equipment such as distribution transformer, switch cabinet, box type transformer, cable terminal and less-oil pole switch against damage from atmospheric over-voltage and switching over-voltage.

Combination tube is made by overwrapping vulcanized fiber tube with epoxy resin saturated fiberglass filaments. The angle of filament winding is usually set at 55. Vulcanized fiber tube becomes an integral tube liner which provides gas-generating and arc-quenching characteristics. Epoxy resin saturated fiberglass provides strength and water resistance. The combination tube is usually coated with UV resistant paint in gray color.

Fiberglass/vulcanized fiber combination tube has the following advantages over fiberglass/polymeric synthetics combination tube: No-spark generating, char layer forming to prevent liner from excessive ablation, and the optimum amount of arc-quenching gas generating. The main application of fiberglass/vulcanized fiber combination tube is used in expulsion fuse tube cutout for interrupting high voltage AC circuits during power surge.

Other types of lightningproof module provide only common model protection, such as when lightning strikes occur ,the module may cause damage.

Principles

in the normal work situation, the lightningproof component within lightning arrester is in the high impedance state. When unexpected over-voltage, over current and thunderbolt occurs, lightningproof component will switch on rapidly, and over-voltage, over-current and thunderbolt invasion wave will be limited to the permitted extent for electricity equipment, thereby protects the power supply to run normally. The Lightning protector also has the failure instruction function: After failure the red LED is bright, indicated the Lightning Protector failed, should give the replacement.
